Gillaroo Angles is able to offer some of the best salmon and wild brown trout fishing in the northern half of Ireland with a season that extends from 1 January to 31 October. We can also arrange sea trout fishing in the wild loughs of Donegal, in the Foyle rivers and later on in the season in the pretty east coast spate rivers.

Our season starts on 1 January on the renowned Watt's Pool in north east Donegal. This famed pool on the Lennon River has quality spring salmon freshly in from the tide and was previously totally private. As the river is fed by two loughs (Gartan and Fern) it is generally clear enough to fish the fly no matter how high the river may be in these early months. As the season progresses other waters come into play with the nearby Lackagh and Glen Lough providing sport from February as does Lough Melvin. March sees the Finn and the Bush enter the equation and by April the Foyle system opens up. Late May will see the grilse appear, and by mid-June substantial runs build up in the Lower Bann, Mourne, Strule, and Bush, to name but a few of the rivers. The grilse fishing continues throughout the summer, generally peaking in July, until the autumn run begins in September. Get the water right on the Glenarm in October and you have the chance of a spanking fresh double figure fish on the fly in a charming small river.

The angler seeking wild brown trout is spoilt for choice in this area. There are the unique hard fighting sonaghen and the beautiful gillaroo of Lough Melvin, the mighty dollaghen of the Lough Neagh system, the challenge of a 5lb plus Lough Erne brownie on the dry fly during the mayfly, and hundreds of hill loughs and miles of river with native brown trout. In many cases in amongst these native brownies you can be surprised by a sea trout, salmon or dollaghen.

Other sporting possibilities with a fly rod include pike, in numerous loughs, but especially in the Fermanagh area. Pollack and mackerel can also provide some lively fun either from the rocks or by taking to the sea with Trevor Ryder & Joe Nash ( 4 IGFA Saltwater Fly Line records ) in the well equipped Mari Patria.

As fly fishing is such a diverse pastime we try and tailor make the package to suit the angler and his party. Follow the links on the left for a few examples of the angling packages we offer. One word of warning is that all the fish we pursue are wild and therefore the angler's chances are greatly affected by water and weather conditions.
